"A Season for Tending" by Cindy Woodsmall was a surprise. I have read only one other fictional book about the Amish ("The Christmas Singing" by the same author) but was prepared for much of the same pious, seemingly perfect characters in a predictable, yet sweet, story.
Didn't get that with this book!
This book portrays the Amish characters to be just what they are...people...fallible people. Topics covered (although in not much depth) are teen angst including the fear of an out-of-wedlock pregnancy, the problems that can arise because of being superstitious, revenge, and falling in love with your brother's love interest.
"The Christmas Singing" I gladly handed over to my 11-year old daughter to read when I was done. This book? No. Not yet. But for adults, it was an unexpected pleasure.
Disclosure of Material Connection: I was provided with a free copy of this book by WaterBrook Press in exchange for my honest opinion.
