Active Sourdough Starter
Last week, I received two wonderful e-books from Wardeh of Gnowfglins.  One is a fabulous book about sourdough called, "Sourdough A to Z".  It is a great resource for those who don't know the first thing about sourdough, for those who know just enough to be dangerous (like me) or even the accomplished sourdough baker.  And if you are a visual learner, she's got a bunch of video classes you can take, too.

By the way, if you do purchase anything from Gnowfglins, I would be ever so appreciative if you used one of the links or sidebar advertisements here on Victory to get thereWardeh is kind enough to give me a little kick-back to help support our blog when you purchase anything from her...so thanks in advance!

Kefir Smoothies ~ Master Recipe

Berries
Berry kefir smoothies are by far our favorite.  They are so good for you and sooo easy...especially if you have an immersion blender like this one

Below is my master recipe.  It makes about 1-1/2 C of smoothie which is a great size for one, but it is even better enjoyed with a friend.

Nut Butter Cacao Kefir Smoothie

Chocolate & Peanut Butter...yum!
Okay.  Who, besides me, looooooves Reeses Peanut Butter Cups?

It's been years since I had one but I used to absolutely adore them.  I stay away from them for obvious reasons, including the last time I had one I became a crazy Reeses Peanut Butter Cup junkie and couldn't control myself.  I hope if I ever do lose my sanity and put one into my mouth that I think they are awful.  Just like how my childhood love affair with Twinkies ended.  I still shudder thinking about just how nasty those things were...

We are well into February and one of my "goals" this year has been to be more careful what I commit myself to.  I want to do so much!  But, I also have to remember that everytime I say "yes" to something, I'm saying "no" to something else.

So this week I am re-evaluating my commitments.  It's not going to be fun because I don't want to let anyone down

It's hard being a grown-up, isn't it?

Book Review: Clouds

Do you like Christian romance novels?  Well, "Clouds" by Robin Jones Gunn is a warm, feel-good book that will make you glad you picked it up.  Although the ending may be a little predictable in some ways, the journey through the book certainly has some interesting and unexpected twists.  My daughter is a huge fan of Robin Jones Gunn and I can see why.
I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review.

Count Your Blessings

Count Your Blessings
Author Unknown

Count your blessings instead of your crosses;
Count your gains instead of your losses.
Count your joys instead of your woes;
Count your friends instead of your foes.
Count your smiles instead of your tears;
Count your courage instead of your fears.
Count your full years instead of your lean;
Count your kind deeds instead of your mean.
Count your health instead of your wealth;
Count on God instead of yourself.

Happy Valentine's Day, my friend.

Please Don't Call Me Names Because I Disagree With You

I'm at a loss.

When did we become a culture that says we value the freedom of speech, but hurls the most awful names at each other when we disagree?

Finding Your Plant Hardiness Zone

If you are relatively new to gardening or have moved to a new area, something you will need to know before you start seeds indoors or out is when your last frost date is.  Nothing could be worse than planting seedlings outside to only have them die because they got too cold.  This has happened to me.  We had a few nice days... I started planting outside before I should have... and I was sad after that.

What is that thing in the sky?
Yesterday was beautiful up here in the Pacific Northwest.  It was good to see the sun.  During the winter, we never know if it's still up there.  I feel better now, knowing that it is.

Valentine's Day is this week.  We are going to celebrate on Friday with a nice dinner, and am trying to decide what to do for the little gems on the 14th.  Last year I did this and they absolutely loved it.

Got any good ideas you'd like to share?  If you do, maybe you should be the blogger.

Monday
B: Oatmeal with bananas & yogurt

D: Chicken & spinach sprouted flour crepes; gratin dauphinois (from Julia Child's Mastering...); green salad; fresh pears with cinnamon

Book Review: Unexpected Love

In most cultures throughout history and some still today, women have been treated as second class citizens.  So how did Jesus feel about women?  In Julie Zine Coleman's book "Unexpected Love", the author dives into just that topic.

22 Years Ago

22 years ago, I met the man who would become my husband.

I don't know anyone that has frustrated me so, yet makes my heart sing the way he does.  I've enjoyed our years together, and God-willing, will enjoy many, many more.  They seem to have gone by so quickly.

The best part?  He not only loves me, he really likes me.  And I'd rather be with him than any other person on this earth.

I wish each of you the joy of living life with your soul-mate.

I am so blessed.
